I always find myself wondering what happens to the headquarters of major companies or better yet, to the servers of important websites if there is a power failure. If you were thinking about the same thing then you should know that there is something called uninterruptible power supplies, a device that becomes very useful if your main power goes out and you’re suddenly in need of emergency current. All data centers around the world have such devices that protect their servers and computers or other very important devices. Even if they were to experience the tiniest power disruption, most of these companies would be facing serious losses, so having a UPS is of paramount importance.
One should know that there’s a big difference between a UPS and a standby generator, as the UPS will only run for about 20 minutes, so its main job is to provide the time that is needed to change generators whenever one of them fails to do its task.
UPS’ are detrimental to making sure that your electronic devices are protected against the unwanted effects of power outage. Data loss is a serious issue so most companies will make sure that all of their equipment is protected in case of a power outage. Of course, these UPS’ came in various forms, all depending on the capacity of devices it needs to keep running. People should know that they can find these in really small sizes that they can use for their own home computers.
As I already said, UPS’ are not for use for long periods of time in the case of power failure. Their battery life is relatively short but they should be able to provide enough time for the generators to be switched.
There are many types of UPS’ on the market; the categories include on-line, line-interactive or standby systems.
